Strategy of the Collaboration
In the current era of poly-crisis, it is crucial to address the complex interplay of climate, health, and migration challenges and opportunities facing the African region. Africa, being at the forefront of the climate crisis, requires targeted efforts to confront these issues effectively.
With the spotlight on Africa due to COP27 being held there in 2023, there has been an increased focus on building regional capacity. The Africa Hub aims to bring together researchers, practitioners, humanitarian organizations, and other stakeholders to collaboratively address these interconnected issues with a strong regional emphasis.
The Africa Hub is coordinated by the School of Climate Studies at Stellenbosch University. Researchers from the School of Climate Studies and the Department of Family and Emergency Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences actively contribute to the CliMigHealth Network, facilitating robust inter-regional collaboration.
Activities
- Establish the Africa Hub.
- Align the main outputs with the CliMigHealth Network strategy for 2023-2025 and beyond.
- Convene regional members working on the nexus to produce regionally focused research, public engagement activities, and educational outputs.
- Develop a regional strategy in accordance with the outcomes of the most recent climate summit and other major events within the region and globally.
